Iberia Parish President Errol "Romo" Romero is a lifelong resident of Iberia Parish. He was elected on November 19, 2011. Romero has a distinguished record of public service having served as a Member and President of the Iberia Parish Police Jury and thereafter as Iberia Parish Sheriff from 1980-1996 and Louisiana State Representative for District 48 from 1996-2008.
Romero brings to office significant knowledge of the obstacles and opportunities that Iberia Parish faces. He is a U.S. Navy veteran; Eucharistic minister, lecturer and usher at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church; former chairman of the Bishop's Service Appeal, March of Dimes, United Givers Fund and Heart Fund; volunteer at St. Francis Diner, the Council on Aging and Special Olympics; and, is a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and Woodmen of the World.
Romo is married to Mary Joyce Chevalon Romero, and they have two children - Clodora Rhodes and Shane Romero - and three grandchildren – Zachary, Miriam and Murphy.
In 2011, when Romero was elected Iberia Parish President, he garnered 56% of the votes in the general election runoff. He finished in first place among three candidates vying for the office in the October 22, 2011 primary election with 42% of the votes, and he carried 13 of 14 parish council districts.
